Ford Flex an up-and-coming Collectible

Ford Flex 2010

As we walked the halls of the 2009 LA Auto Show, Henry and I came upon the show’s timeline display. We both agreed that it would have been awesome to see all those classics under one roof. Then I started thinking: What’s it going to be like when our cars (if ever) are considered classics? Who decides that? Is it just the sickest looking car according to the masses?

Now, I have a hard time thinking my current ride is ever going to be a collectible. The Friends of the National Automotive History Collection (NAHC), on the other hand, scope a car out each year, which they deem Collectible Vehicle of the Future. This year’s winner is the Ford Flex.

Considering Ford’s history as an auto maker in the U.S., it’s no real surprise it has been recognized by the largest auto archive association. In fact the NAHC has predicted the Ford Flex will be serious eye candy at the 2034 Woodward Dream Cruise. So what scored the Flex this sweet award? It was its unique design of course. Ford can add one more tally to their future collectibles list, along with the 2005 Ford Mustang and the 2002 Ford Thunderbird.

One thing is for sure, 2034 isn’t exactly eons away. It’s a bit trippy to think how fast automotive design will develop in the next 25 years.
