Tiger’s Biggest Mistake
There’s been a lot of buzz about Tiger Wood’s unfortunate encounter with a fire hydrant. The causes behind the crash have started a flurry of comments and confessions, but I’d rather focus on the safety aspect. This was a top of the line, approximately six-foot-tall Cadillac Escalade conquered by a two-foot tall hydrant. What’s more it didn’t just leave a dent; it did a lot of damage. So what’s my reaction, dude should’ve been driving a Ford Expedition.
Let’s face it, the Ford Expedition won NHTSA’s highest front crash test rating for 10 years for a reason. It’s got a perimeter sensor that warns the driver as soon as he is about to collide with something. I’m pretty sure if that had been a feature in Tiger’s Escalade, he would have tried to at least avoid Mr. Hydrant. Just in case he didn’t though, the Escape has six standard airbags – virtually surrounding you in cushion on every side. I’m not pointing any fingers, but had Tiger Woods been surrounded in life-saving cushion he could have avoided his trip to the ICU (and maybe his wife wouldn’t have had to “dig him out” with a golf club).
