Toyota Review

The Tundra, Toyota’s newest full-size pickup has been redesigned to contend with the Dodge Ram, Chevy Silverado and Ford F-150. The new look has some Toyota loyalists scratching their heads but there is no doubt it is a fresh approach. The standard 4.7 liter V8 provides more horsepower than ever before and the fuel efficiency has been increased should you wish to commute in a full-size pickup. An optional 5.7 liter V8 pumps out 381 horsepower providing plenty of power but will have you paying the pump a little more frequently.
Off of the line, this truck hauls serious tail. The 5.7 liter double cab model goes 0-60 in 7.9 seconds making it one of the fastest full-size pickups around. Upgraded to six speeds instead of five, the new transmission never leaves you in the wrong gear which is extremely useful while hauling a big load. As for bringing this behemoth to a stop, the brakes are comfortingly resistant to fade after multiple stops but still fall a bit short of their competitors in terms of overall stopping distance.
The suspension is designed to handle a massive tow load. Unfortunately, this does not translate to a very smooth ride. Steering is very responsive in tight situations but does not provide that knees-on-the-wheel confidence at high speeds. Sometimes you just have to decide if you want a truck or a Cadillac.
Toyota has continued its tradition of producing a reliable, powerful truck that can handle the rigorous demands of everyday use. The full-size pickup class is more competitive than ever, and while the Tundra still manages to hold its own, the other full-size trucks continue to raise the bar ever higher.
