Roadside Service

If you have ever been locked out of your car on a rainy night or ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere, you know that roadside assistance can be the difference between a potential nightmare and a funny story to tell your friends.
Fortunately, technology has made it easier than ever to get help when you need it. An example is the AAA iPhone application. The application allows you to send a request for roadside assistance automatically disclosing your exact location. The application also provides a 'while you are waiting' feature where you can research nearby auto body shops and car rental companies. The application is free and available at the iTunes app store. In order to use it, however, you must be a member of AAA. If you would like to join via your iPhone, the app also offers the option to join AAA directly.
The cost of roadside assistance plans is relatively inexpensive. The key is figuring out what each plan includes. Areas where plans may differ are:
-Package plan cost (annual)
-Length of service
-Towing distance
-Fuel delivery in an emergency
-Lockout service
-Flat tire service
-Additional drivers coverage
-Service calls allowed per year
-Towing reimbursement
-Trip planning
Most plans are available for under $100 per year. AAA offers three membership packages with the most basic at $59 and the most comprehensive costing $109 annually. Your current car insurance provider may also include some roadside assistance coverage. Check out what is covered under your current plan so you aren't paying for the same thing twice.
