Moto Madness

Yamaha's newest R1 is the very latest in sport bike technology. 1000 cc's of newly engineered power makes this 2009 model unlike anything seen before on the American highway or race course. The new cross-plane crankshaft design has made this beast the talk of the motorcycle world. This innovative engine design was first utilized in MotoGP on the famous M1 sport bike commandeered by MotoGP Champion, Valentino Rossi. Yamaha has implemented this technology in the complete redesign of the R1.
Not only does this motorcycle offer the latest in engine power delivery, but it also features major technological improvements. Yamaha D-Mode (or drive mode) allows the rider to control the mapping for multiple driving conditions from the racetrack to the interstate. The YCC-T (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) used on the 2008 R1 uses fly-by-wire technology to deliver ultra quick throttle response. Grab a handful and feel the smooth pull throughout the power band. Yamaha claims 182 horsepower at 12,500 rpm which should be plenty for any speed demons. It may not be fuel-efficient, but is definitely time-efficient.
The new body design makes everyone look. The new sound makes them look twice. Reminiscent of a V-four engine, the growl emitted makes this literbike stand apart from the competition.
Extra stability was not left out when designing the new R1. A steering damper valve is activated when the bike exceeds 125 mph for rigidity at high speed. When going that fast you need major stopping power. While the brakes are smaller in diameter, they are more rigid than before and provide plenty of feel when speeding into a sharp corner.
Yamaha's newest flagship motorcycle exemplifies the biggest shift in sport bike technology yet to be seen. With a MSRP of $12,390.00, million dollar MotoGP technology is within reach for all sport bike enthusiasts. Keep the rubber side down.
