Insurance Breaks for Federal Employees

Car insurance quotes are easy to obtain on the web but obtaining all available discounts is a different matter. Some providers offer discounted rates for federal employees while others may only offer discounts for military personnel.
One such company that does offer a discount for federal employees is Geico. They offer a 3-10% discount for federal employees matching one of the 19 federal groups that has a relationship with Geico. To better understand if your particular office is on the list call an agent and explain to them you wish to receive a discount.
Military personnel can also receive specialized insurance rates. Many insurance companies will offer a more flexible plan for those that face deployment overseas. Their discounts are governed by the rank of the personnel buying the insurance. Geico, who seems to advertise the most comprehensive discounts, claims, "If you are on active duty, retired from the Military, or a member of the National Guard or Reserves, you may be eligible for a discount of up to 15 percent on your total insurance premium." They offer a list of countries designated by the Department of Defense that qualify you for the discount. In addition, the vehicle must meet certain storage standards dictated by Geico.
Keep in mind that these discounts may depend on the state you live in. Those living in an area highly populated by government employees such as Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia may have increased discount opportunities.
